Bioethanol (kWh), UBA Österreich, 2023

Updated yesterday

Description

Biofuels are produced from renewable raw materials. As the plants absorb as much CO2 during growth as is emitted during subsequent incineration, the direct CO2 emissions resulting from incineration are not added. In addition to CO2, other greenhouse gases are produced during incineration, so the CO2 equivalent is not zero. In this calculation, this applies to biodiesel and bioethanol. In addition, the following proportions of biofuels are added to diesel and petrol in Austria: 6.6% (volumetric) for diesel, 5.3% (volumetric) for petrol. The volumetric blending rates are based on Austria's National Inventory Report 2024 (UMWELTBUNDESAMT, 2024a).
